Title: Alchemist
Trained By: Alchemist, Apothecary, Mage, Scribe

  • Tools needed: mortar and pestle, heating stand

An alchemist is a revered profession being able to make a variety of potions that enhance your skills, recover your wounds while in battle and make things blow up. But if there was any a profession that had a caveat emptor, it is the alchemist. It is often best to ensure the potions you buy are from a reputable alchemist. For while potions may look good and taste alright, if not mixed correctly by a skilled alchemist, potions can have ill effect after drinking them.

If the alchemist is a master at mixing potions, the potion is perfect and will likely not have any ill-effects.

If the alchemist meets the requirements to make the potion but fails to make the potion, they have a chance to salvage the wrong ingredients into a mysterious potion otherwise they just use up the ingredients. Mysterious potions are mysterious indeed and can produce a number of odd effects when drunk. However, those with high enough alchemy skill can drink enough of the potion, while avoiding the nasty floating things in it, to produce up to 3x the normal buffs for a random stat. If not, the following can happen to the drinker:

  • You can get poisoned
  • Your hair can fall out
  • Your skin can turn blue
  • Your gender can change (temporary)
  • Dying
  • Turning odd colors
  • Receiving half, double or even triple the buff
  • Blowing up and killing everything around you

Alchemist Specific Skills

These skills can be found in the alchemy menu.

Charge Focus

Charges a blank alchemy symbol. An alchemy symbol is used to make wands. There are 11 different types of alchemy symbols to make 11 different types of wands. Tinkerers make alchemy symbols and alchemists charge their focus so they are ready to be used on a blank wand to charge it. If you are successful at charging the focus, it will turn a bright blue. Check the section on making wands for the skill needed to charge each symbol.

Empty Bottles

Empties a stack of filled bottles ready to be filled again. You can also select a bag and it will empty all filled bottles in the bag. You will need some skill to properly empty the contents of a bottle.

Cull Reagents

Certain raw reagents can be picked from gardens: raw garlic, raw nightshade, raw ginseng and raw mandrake. Picking them from the garden requires lumberjacking skill. You can select a single one or a bag and an alchemist with low-moderate skill can carefully pick out the needed parts, ready to be used as a reagent in a spell or recipe. Raw reagents give 10 reagents if successfully culled.

Acidic Powder

Used to disintegrate gems to make gem dye tubs. Requires a mortar and pestle.

Potion Skill Reagents
Bag of Acidic Powder 100 200 sulphurous ash

Gunpowder

One of the requirement items to fire a cannon. An empty gun powder sack can be made by a tailor. Requires a mortar and pestle. Gunpowder does not show in the alchemy crafting menu. When you have all the items needed, use the empty gunpowder sack and it will make the sack of gunpowder.

Potion Skill Reagents
Charge of Gun Powder 100 5 sulphurous ash, empty gun powder sack

Homunculus Creations

A homunculus creation is a tiny creature that looks like a mongbat (or as others call them, monkey with wings) and follows you around using your name. Monsters ignore him and if he does get hurt (typically from area of effect spells) then he'll run away (they are not invincible but can be buffed to take a couple more hits).

If you are killed near your homunculus creation, you will take over the creature's body instead of actually becoming a ghost. You must be fairly close to the homunculus - if he has run away from being hit, unless he has already returned the moment you are killed, you will not inhabit his body. After about 30 minutes of people pointing at you, you will change back into your regular form.

Homunculus creations can come in different colors and animal spirit shapes. When you are creating your homunculus, make sure you have a gem accessible in your pack. Your homunculus will turn into the gem color. Gems include all normal gems (diamond, sapphire, etc) and elemental gems. If you do not select a gem, a different random color from the gems will be selected. After the color choice, you will be asked if you want your homunculus to change it's spirit shape. This will cost 1,000 experience points and the shape will be random. If you want a different colored homunculus or a different spirit animal, you must kill your homunculus before creating a new one.

To create a homunculus, you must have one totem and one elixer. Double-click either and if successful, you will see a little hairless friend beside you. At 100 skill, there is still only a 25% of succeeding. If you fail, one of 4 bad things can happen to you:

  • You can get poisoned
  • Your hair can fall out
  • Your skin can turn blue
  • Your sex can change (temporary)

A homunculus will obey the following commands (if he has enough mana for those requiring it).

Command Description
[All] Follow Me Follows you around (default).
Cure Attempts to cure you of poison.
Heal Attempts to heal you.
Light Let there be light.
Fetch Fetches an item off the ground.
Loot Loots a body of one item.
Give Gives you any item the homunculus has.
Drop Drops an item on the ground, if they have one.

Tattoos

Tattoos are body coverings. There are three different types of tattoos as shown on the table below. A tattoo takes the place of a clothing slot and does not offer any extra special abilities other than looking cool.

Tattoos can be dyed. Open your skill book and click the alchemy blue gem, target the tattoo you wish to dye then the dyetub to color it. Make sure the dyetub you want to use is in your backpack.
